Yeast Infection Symptoms – Have You Tried The Spit Test?
Sometimes yeast infection symptoms are difficult to recognize, as they may mimic symptoms of other problems. There is, however, a simple test you can do at home to see if you have a yeast overgrowth in your body—and it’s called “The Spit Test”, of all things.
The accuracy of the spit test is somewhat controversial. Some believe it to be very accurate, others believe it’s a joke. I wasn’t able to find any conclusive evidence to prove either school of thought.
I did read several articles from reputable news and research sources that indicate that spit testing is being used to detect cancer of the head and neck, as well as to detect the presence of certain drugs in the body.
It seems to me, it could also confirm yeast infection symptoms, as well.
I personally believe it could be a useful tool in monitoring yeast levels in our bodies. If, for instance, you conducted a spit test and observed all three of the results listed below, you might consider that this indicates a yeast problem of some sort in your body.
At that point, you could start a Candida cleanse and diet program to get rid of the yeast overgrowth in your body. After 6-8 weeks, try the spit test again and see if there’s any change in your results.
It’s not exactly scientific or absolutely definitive, but it may be a good way to measure your progress, at any rate.
Here’s how to do it. Because candida yeast collects in the saliva overnight, as soon as you get out of bed and before you eat or drink anything, fill a clear glass with water and spit once into the glass of water—the more saliva the better. It usually takes about half an hour or so to see the results, though I’ve noticed that things can begin happening in as soon as fifteen minutes.
You’ll be able to tell if you have a yeast infection if you see one or more of the following three results:
1. Tentacle-like or stringy formations will start to hang from the saliva pool floating on top of the water.
2. Cloudy spots or specks may be suspended in the water.
3. Your saliva may become cloudy and sink to the bottom of the glass.
If your saliva remains floating on top of the water and there aren’t any stringy leg-like things hanging from it after one hour, you’re one of the lucky few with no yeast infection symptoms and you probably have the yeast in your body under control.
Lucky you!!
The more and faster you notice any or all of these symptoms, the worse your yeast overgrowth may be.
Also, take note of how long it took for things to start “happening”, i.e., cloudy specks, tentacle-like legs hanging down, saliva sinking to the bottom of the glass, etc. The quicker all of this started happening (3-5 minutes), the worse your yeast infection symptoms probably are and the more serious your yeast infection may be.
If it takes 15-30 minutes for anything to start happening, you probably don’t have an extensive yeast infection symptoms. But, any yeast infection is bad, so you should definitely take steps to address the problem.

Hi Tiffany-
I’m sorry to hear about your recent bouts with yeast infections. They’re definitely NOT fun. Unfortunately, many times fluconazole may take care of yeast infections, but it’s normally only a temporary remedy and the yeast infection almost always comes back–sometimes worse than before. I would recommend that you use Yeastrol and for added benefit I would suggest another product mentioned on this blog called Oregasil. Oregasil is a wild oregano oil that has a ton of benefits including anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and, most importantly for yeast infection treatment, anti-fungal properties. It will come with some veggie capsules and a dropper cap. To begin with, put about 3-4 drops of the Oregasil oil in a veggie cap and take WITH FOOD and a few ounces of water–2-3 times a day. After a week, you can increase the dosage to 5-10 drops in each capsule. You may start to feel some “die off” symptoms–sort of like flu-ish symptoms. If these die-off symptoms get too bad, back off on your dosage a bit. But don’t stop taking the oil. Take it steadily at these dosages for at least three weeks. Once you see that your yeast infection is gone for good–you can go to a maintenance dose which is normally 3-5 drops once daily 3-4 times a week. This works for me, but you can experiment a bit and find what works best for you. Oregasil is also great for keeping flu and colds at bay. If you start feeling flu-ish or like your getting a cold, start taking the oil asap and it usually keep colds and viruses from coming on.
Also, your diet has a lot to do with yeast infection occurrences. Stay away from any yeasty foods such as breads, beer, some nuts, etc. There are a few posts on this blog regarding diet suggestions and there is also a ton of diet information for yeast infections on the web.
Let me know how you’re doing! I hope these suggestions are helpful.
