Yeast Infection Prevention – 10 Practical Tips To Prevent Yeast Infections – Part Two
Last time, we discussed five very practical tips for yeast infection prevention. Have you put them into practice yet?
Once you realize that a candida overgrowth is the source of your health problems, utilizing the following tips could help prevent yeast infections in the future.
Let’s pick up where we left off last time:
6. Avoid tampons and toilet paper that are scented, douches, feminine deodorants, and scented powders. They all contain chemical ingredients and perfumes that may cause an imbalance of the “good guy” bacteria (probiotics) and micro-flora in the vagina. Yeast infections and douching don’t mix. If you douche when you have an active yeast infection you could possibly spread the infection into your cervix and uterus area.
7. When using the bathroom, wipe front to back; otherwise you may spread bacteria from the anus to the vaginal area.
8. Since yeast feeds off of sugar, diabetics are prone to yeast infections due to high blood sugar levels. Controlling blood sugar levels will decrease the odds of initial and reoccuring yeast infections.
9. As we discussed previously, yogurt that that is unsweetened and contains lactobacillus acidophilus cultures, or “good guy” bacteria, will most likely aid in yeast infection prevention.
10. Avoid antibiotics when at all possible—and especially broad spectrum antibiotics. They kill off the good and bad bacteria in your body which allows for an overgrowth of yeast. If you must take antibiotics, take probiotics to restore the good bacteria or gut flora that has been killed by antibiotics. Take the probiotics as far away from your antibiotic dose as possible—otherwise the antibiotics will render the probiotics ineffective.
Finally, try to eat a healthy diet and remove as much stress from your life as possible. This involves learning to say “No, thank you!” when pressured to stretch yourself to thin.
Stress and sugar depletes your immune system which is an open invitation for opportunistic yeast infections to become a big problem.
Although medical research has yet to confirm it, a connection has been made between too much stress and sugar and recurring yeast infections.
A nutritious diet and making time for daily relaxation and meditation will not only boost your immune system—but is also a great start toward effective yeast infection prevention.
So be proactive!! Decide to make positive changes that will empower your body to fend off infection and illness—you’ll be SO glad you did!
